I would like to tell you a little about our wonderful parish! St. Leo’s started out as a mission church of St. John’s Spencerport. We became our own parish on June 11, 1946. We first worshipped in the old wooden white clapboard church, which is still being used on Lake Ave. In 1964, our present church and parish center were built on the property behind the original church.
Buildings are just that. The church is its people, or as St Peter says in 1 Peter 2:5: “ like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
There are so many activities and ministries happening in and out of our parish buildings that they are too numerous to mention. We pride ourselves in being a Stewardship parish, which means our parishioners freely share their time, talent and treasure for building up God’s Kingdom.
We are the forefront of the New Evangelization. We have a active Cursillo group and we participate in the wonderful Christ Life Experience. There is a very active RCIA for those who wish to become Catholic. We have a great School of Religion for our children, and also have many activities for adults including Bible Study and Marriage Enrichment. We have an awesome music program with an Adult Choir, Resurrection Choir, Youth Choir, Children’s Choir, Bell Choir, Children’s Bell Choir and the Hearts Ablaze Band. We offer Rosary Society and Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Our Knights of Columbus and the Columbiettes are constantly sponsoring programs. Our Social Justice offers many opportunities to reach out to the poor of our community and surrounding area.
These are just a few of the ministries and happenings that go on at St. Leo’s. If you don’t presently have a Church home, why not check us out? I think you will be pleasantly surprised. We would love to welcome you to our vibrant parish.
